The World Sports Photography Awards are the only global awards for sports photography, designed to recognise and celebrate incredible sports images and the photographers who take them. TwelfthMan, along with Exposure Communications, is a co-owner of the awards and has been co-running them since they began in 2020, in partnership with photography equipment reselling platform MBP.
Since the awards began, thousands of professional and semi-professional sports photographers from around the world have submitted 50,000 images in 24 sporting categories. This year, the panel of judges had more than 13,000 images to choose from, submitted by over 2,200 professional sports photographers from 96 countries.
This year’s winning photography is of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina, which captures an incredible moment where athlete, spectacle and photographer come together in perfect harmony. The image was taken by Tahiti-based French photographer Jerome Brouillet on the third day of the surfing event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Teahupo’o, French Polynesia. it is one of 24 winning images across sports categories including American football, baseball, equestrian, golf, racquet sports and football.
Since the announcement, our team has secured high-profile coverage on the BBC, the Guardian, the Olympics channel, Stern, TNT Sports Brazil, Sports Illustrated and plenty more globally.
