The report encompasses a wide range of topics and initiatives across the Premier League, from the football itself to work supporting communities and the wider game. This meant that the design had to be flexible and variable to include a variety of content and sub-brand assets.
We worked closely with the client from the early stages in the project to develop the application of the visual language, focusing on typography and the wayfinding system through the report, using the Premier League colour gradients sequentially, which are then picked out as accent colours in pull quotes and headings. We developed the design from last year’s publication by tailoring a custom icon set for the report, and found opportunities to highlight striking imagery from across the football season.
Accessibility was a key focus for the project, with the requirement that the digital version of the report be optimised for those using screen readers. The designers set up the document to be accessible by screen readers, a complex process using in-built accessibility tools, such as tagging content and adding alt-text to images.
