TwelfthMan were proud to be awarded the commission to design and produce the medals for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Our objective was to deliver a collection that was inspiring, innovative and fully aligned with the prestige of the event.

The 19th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup was staged across three host countries – Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. The event’s identity was founded on a visual ‘heartbeat’ driven by the passion of the fans. Our design expressed the heartbeat as a unique, stepped form with a hammered central section referencing the texture of basketball’s Naismith trophy.

The medals were hand crafted through a complex series of processes, from prototyping and testing, to stamping, engraving, plating and polishing.

After a close encounter with Serbia in the Final, Germany were crowned champions of the world, winning their first world title 83-77 in front of 12,000 fans in the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
